Ball Mountain Lake Spring and Fall Water Release
On our way to and from Stratton, we always stop at Jamaica, VT, along route 30. There is a great Swiss restaurant there, and where else is there to buy coffee but at the Jamaica Coffee house.
There are gallaries there, antique shops, a great deli. However, it is also the home of the white water rafting. Each spring and fall there is the release of water from the Ball Mountain Flood Control Dam.
We discovered the rite of spring once the last weekend in April. We were driving up to Vermont, two weeks after the ski season closed, and could not believe all the kayaks and rafting equipment on the top of the cars. It is great to see or participate in.

Jamaica State Park
There are campsites at the Jamaica State Park, Townshend State Park, and Ball Mountain Lake, all along Route 30 just a few miles South of Stratton. Just west of Manchester is the outstanding Dover camp site.
Private Camp Sites
There are plenty of outstanding places to just stop along side of a river. If you want a private place to pitch a tent, we have noticed many individual campers hicking on the rode just past the old Village of Stratton and the Town Hall, going east on the dirt road towards Arlington, Vt.
