| Stratton Chapel of the Snows
There is a beautiful Chapel at Stratton, right at the base of the Stratton Mountain Village. It is a non-denominational chapel and available for weddings, baptisms and church services. It is a perfect place for a mountain wedding and can be scheduled by calling 802 387-5861.
(Note: Please excuse the header picture. The day I went out to take a picture the snow was so deep, I could not get it right, and my digital bit the dust, well the snow, actually. I have other beautiful Chapel of the Snows pictures on film, that are more accurate.)
We could not verify the exact history of the Chapel of the Snows, so this is just "what we remember", and "what we remember" is sometimes not too accurate.
The Chapel was built in the 1980's on Boy Scout Land. Originally it held Catholic, Protestant and Jewish Services. Over the years, the services at the Chapel have diminished. When a new large temple was built in Manchester, most of the Jewish services moved there. Catholic mass is still held at eh Chapel of the Snows on a seasonal schedule.
The Chapel of the Snows is a great place for a service. The window at the top of the chapel points to the mountain. Years ago, first time I went to the Chapel, I could not concentrate on the service, but kept on watching the skiers and beautiful snow conditions at the top of the mountain.
