Icy Weather at Stratton Mountain
Sometimes at Stratton Mountain it can snow, shower ice pellets, rain, then freeze, and turn back to snow. Sometimes this is all in one day, sometimes all in one hour over night.
The result mess requires a massive grooming, but provides an opportunity for spectacular pictures. By morning, Stratton usually has the ice ground up into "Vermont gravel" or "Snow cookies". Some slopes such as Black Bear and all the lower mountain are great. Others can be a challenge. This section is just to show you the ice at Stratton and in Vermont. We think it is beautiful. Others driving think it is trecherous. This is why you may need a winter packing list when planning for a trip to Stratton.
In all cases you need sharp edges on your skis or snowboard. Some mornings it is just better to stay home and light the fire. For Stratton Mountain reservations in a nice condo with a wood burning fireplace to excape the ice, please Contact Us.
